Writing courses can quickly become expensive through traditional means. Writer's Village University offers affordable writing courses that can improve any writer's craft.

Writer’s Village University has been offering affordable writing courses and workshops for the novice and seasoned writer since 1985. This educational community is internet based, meaning that students can study from anywhere at anytime throughout the world.

Course and Workshop Offerings

Writer’s Village University provides over 250 writing courses and workshops in the following writing areas:

  • Comedy writing
  • Fiction writing
  • Freelance writing
  • Creative writing
  • Memoir writing
  • Poetry writing
  • Romance writing

  • Songwriting

New courses and workshops are continuously being developed and released so there really is something for every writer, no matter what they specialize in.

The writing courses range from two to eight weeks in length, while the workshops are one week long. New writing courses and workshops start every week, so there are always educational offerings available, no matter when a writer joins. Writer’s Village University keeps an up to date online course calendar so students can plan their schedule accordingly.

Course and Workshop Structure

All writing workshops and courses are centered on peer learning with virtual interaction among students playing a vital part of the educational process. Writer’s Village University also has course facilitators for specific courses that are available to answer questions relating to the course material.

Assignments from the lessons are posted on the classroom message board which starts the peer feedback and review process. Lessons are available online anytime, day or night so the student can study when it’s convenient for them.

A wide range of chat and study group options are available to further facilitate the peer learning process. While these are optional features, they can enhance the educational experience for the writing student by providing a fun and respectful place to exchange ideas.

Tuition and Fees

One of the greatest things about Writer’s Village University is the price tag. Over 250 writing courses and workshops are available for a low annual fee. This means that students don’t need to worry about paying for courses individually, their affordable annual membership fee includes access to unlimited courses.

Other payment plans, both monthly and quarterly, are available for the prospective student that doesn’t feel comfortable committing to the annual membership fee. This allows them to try a class or two before deciding if Writer’s Village University is the right option for them.

Writer’s Village University also has special promotional periods where they offer a writing course free to the public. For more information, please visit the official Writer’s Village University website.

Yeah this would be a great program if people actually showed up in the classrooms. I paid for these services and was the only person in 2 different classes, so I was basically talking to myself. Not real valuable. And to add insult to injury, the owner of this establishment could care less.

WVU sucks. Like an idiot, I became a lifetime member. The problem is that the classes are peer mediated, so your WVU experience is entirely dependent on the quality of your classmates. Half of the classes might have one or two active members. With no instructor to guide things along or provide feedback, then what use is that?

Also, because the classes are so cheap (free for lifetime members and for certain classes), you get other classes that are in complete disarray. Many of the people in the class have no background whatsoever in writing, and most of them are the types who expect real critiques of their own work while providing useless critiques like "Good Job!", or "More, please", when reviewing others. The dropout rate for such classes is astronomical, so you can never be sure who will show up each week.

I've taken 3 classes there and didn't learn a thing. Join a writing group or attend a real writing class at Gotham or one of the other better places.

WVU is a great idea for all the kids who are forum savvy but when an old guy like me tries to navigate the place it a recipe for disaster. Plus after seeking assistance there was little of that.
Like I said the ideas great but it cuts a lot of people out because of the complicated procedures.

Yeah, I'm researching online classes right now. As soon as I saw it was peer-driven, I had my doubts.
